Terms of Use

Effective

These terms are the agreement between you and Family Spot covering the Family Spot app, this website, and the Family Spot Pro subscription. By creating an account or using the app you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use Family Spot.

What Family Spot is

Family Spot is a shared planner for a household. You create a household, invite the people in it, and everyone sees the same events and tasks. It is a convenience tool, not a system of record — do not rely on it alone for anything where a missed reminder has a serious consequence, such as medication, legal deadlines, or medical appointments.

Your account

  • You need an email address and a password. Keep the password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account.
  • Give us an address you can actually receive mail at — password resets go through it, and we use it if you ask us to delete the account by email.
  • One account belongs to one household at a time.
  • You must be old enough to form a contract where you live to hold an account, and at least 18 or have a parent's or guardian's consent to buy a subscription. Children can appear as household members, with a name and an avatar created by an adult, without accounts of their own.

Your household and its content

What you type into Family Spot stays yours. We do not claim ownership of your events, tasks, names, or notes. You give us only the permission we need to run the service: to store your content, show it to the other members of your household, and send the reminders you asked for.

Anything you add is visible to every signed-in member of your household, so treat the household as a shared space. If you invite someone, you are choosing to show them your plan. Sharing an invite code with someone outside your household lets them in — treat it like a key.

If you leave a household, your membership is removed and items assigned to you become Everyone or Unassigned. If you were the last member, the household and its events and tasks are deleted with it. If you were the owner and others remain, the longest-standing member becomes the owner. You can delete the account itself in the app under More → Delete account, which also leaves the household. A Pro subscription is cancelled only in your store account.

Family Spot Pro

Family Spot is free to use. Family Spot Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription — monthly or yearly — that unlocks AI (voice notes and Plan with AI) and calendar import. Everything else — the shared household, members, events, tasks, repeats, reminders, the in-app calendar, and conflict warnings — stays free.

  • Price and period. The price, currency, and billing period are shown in the app before you confirm, and that is what applies. We offer a monthly and a yearly period; the yearly one costs less per month.
  • Auto-renewal. A subscription renews automatically for the same period at the same price until you cancel. Your store charges you within 24 hours before each period ends.
  • Cancelling. Cancel at any time in your store account — on iPhone under Settings → your name → Subscriptions, on Android in the Play Store under Payments and subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not shorten the period you already paid for. Everything you already added stays exactly where it is; only the Pro features switch off.
  • Payment and refunds. Purchases are made through Apple or Google, not through us. We never see or handle your card details. Refunds are theirs to give, under their terms — we cannot issue one, though we will gladly help you work out what went wrong.
  • Price changes. If we change the price of a subscription you already hold, you will be told in advance and asked to agree before it takes effect. If you do not agree, the subscription ends at the close of the current period.
  • One account. A subscription is tied to the account that bought it, and Pro is active for that member. Use Restore purchases if it does not appear after reinstalling or changing device.

Voice notes and Plan with AI

These features send what you say or type to third-party providers that turn speech into text and text into draft events and tasks. Two things follow from that:

  • They are best-effort and sometimes wrong. A draft is a suggestion. Nothing is saved to your plan until you confirm it on the review screen, and you are responsible for checking the date, the time, and who it is for before you do.
  • Do not dictate or paste anything you would not want processed by a third party — payment details, passwords, health records, or anyone else's private information.

How the audio and text are handled, and what is kept, is set out in the Privacy Policy.

Calendar sync

With your permission, Family Spot reads the calendars already on your device and copies upcoming events into your household so the household can see them. It never writes to or changes your device calendar. Copying an event into your household makes it visible to the other members, so only link calendars you are happy to share. Turning sync off deletes the copies Family Spot made.

How you may not use it

  • Do not use Family Spot for anything unlawful, or to harass, track, or monitor someone against their wishes.
  • Do not try to break into other households, other accounts, or our systems, and do not probe, scan, or overload them.
  • Do not reverse-engineer, decompile, or resell the app, and do not build a competing service out of it.
  • Do not use it through automated means, at a volume that degrades it for others, or in a way that breaks Apple's or Google's rules.

Our rights in the app

The app, this website, the Family Spot name, and the pin-and-house mark are ours. You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for as long as these terms are kept. Nothing here transfers any of our intellectual property to you.

Availability and changes

We want the app up all the time and cannot promise it. Maintenance, an outage at a provider, an app store, or your own network can interrupt it. We may add, change, or withdraw features. If we withdraw something material that Pro paid for, we will tell subscribers first.

Ending it

You can stop at any time: cancel the subscription in your store, leave your household, or delete the account in the app (More → Delete account). If you cannot open the app, email us from your sign-up address and we will delete it. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts other people's data at risk, and we will say why unless we are legally unable to.

Warranties

Family Spot is provided as it is. Beyond what the law requires of us, we make no promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose, and we do not warrant that a reminder will always arrive — phones, operating systems, and notification services are outside our control.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, Family Spot is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profit or opportunity, or for anything you missed because a reminder did not reach you. Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for Family Spot in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for your mandatory rights as a consumer.

Your consumer rights

If you are a consumer, you keep every right the law of your country gives you, and nothing here takes those away. In the EEA and the UK that includes statutory rights about digital content and subscriptions.

Apple App Store terms

If you installed Family Spot from the App Store, the following apply and Apple is a third-party beneficiary of them, able to enforce them against you:

  • This agreement is between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its contents.
  • Your licence to use the app is limited to Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service.
  • We, not Apple, are solely responsible for support and maintenance. Apple has no obligation to provide either.
  • If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may tell Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price; beyond that Apple has no warranty obligation, and any other claims are our responsibility.
  • We, not Apple, are responsible for handling claims about the app — product liability, a failure to meet a legal requirement, or consumer protection claims.
  • We, not Apple, are responsible for investigating and settling any third-party claim that the app infringes intellectual property.
  • You confirm you are not in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo and are not on a prohibited-parties list.
  • You must comply with any applicable third-party terms when using the app.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that affects you, we will update the effective date above and tell you in the app before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Family Spot afterwards means you accept the new version. If you do not, stop using the app and cancel any subscription.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the country in which Family Spot is established. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings in your local courts.
